Dr. Sharon Gurm completed her BSc in Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of British Columbia. Always an avid athlete, she was a member of the UBC varsity and BC Provincial field hockey teams. While completing her undergraduate degree, she began a research position at the BC Cancer Agency which she continued for 2 more years prior to commencing her Naturopathic Medical studies. Upon completion of her degree from UBC, she also accepted a two-year position as a research assistant at St. Vincent’s Hospital for the treatment, assessment and management of osteoporosis while she continued her position at the BCCA. Dr. Gurm graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario with a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine.
Dr. Gurm has an established family practice in Port Moody with special interests in women’s health, endocrinology, infertility, pediatrics, autoimmune, neurological and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, weight management, allergies, dermatological conditions, sports medicine, digestive disorders, heavy metal toxicity, complimentary cancer therapies and natural anti-aging therapies.
Dr. Gurm believes strongly in the body’s innate ability to heal itself. By working with the vital force of the individual using a holistic approach and the fundamental principles of naturopathic medicine, true healing and optimal health can be achieved. In 2008, Dr. Gurm was one of 6 Canadian physicians selected to attend International Medicine Week in Baden-Baden, Germany where chosen physicians from all over the world congregate to present advancements in integrative medicine. On March 8th 2009, Dr. Gurm was a participant in International Women’s Day as a selected panel member for the health, wellness and beauty forum. Dr. Gurm was a guest and interviewee for Sushma Datt on the television show “Woman In Focus” (broadcast in May 2009) to discuss her passion and life journey in pursuing a career in naturopathic medicine. In August, 2009 she was a guest on the Good Life Network radio show and host Jesse Dylan interviewed Dr. Gurm about the impact of heavy metals and chemical toxicity on our health and ecosystem. She has published work in the NDNR (Naturopathic Doctor News & Review) and in her spare time, writes articles and guest columns for the website and the local paper. Her deep passion for naturopathic medicine and the power of education and empowerment has inspired her to conduct informative workshops and lectures to help generate awareness about health matters.
Dr. Gurm is licensed by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC and is a member of the BC Naturopathic Association (BCNA), the Canadian Naturopathic Association (CAND), the Infertility Awareness Association of Canada (IAAC), the Bio-Identical Hormone Society (BHS) and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). She maintains balance in her busy life by nurturing her spiritual growth, practicing yoga and meditation, running, weight training, participating in various sporting events and spending quality time with her husband and family.
