Fat Loss & Weight Management - The First Line Therapy Program

WHAT IS FIRST LINE THERAPY?

First Line Therapy (FLT) is a program designed to help people implement therapeutic lifestyle changes into their daily lives so they can live longer, healthier lives free from disease.

WHAT MAKES FLT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMS?

The goal of FLT is to promote healthy body composition, not necessarily weight loss. Other programs may rely on a scale to measure progress, but how do we know that the weight loss was from fat stores? The answer is we don’t. The only way to identify changes in fat vs lean mass is to measure body composition. Even a person who is at a healthy weight may have a high body fat percentage, which increases their risk of chronic disease. Measuring body composition allows us to track your progress and assist you in making healthy changes, regardless of your weight. We want to see your proportion of lean body mass (muscle mass) increase while your fat mass decreases. Muscle burns more calories at rest - the more muscle you have, the more efficient you become at burning calories and the easier it is to shed the fat pounds and keep them off!

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

Once you have been prescribed the FLT program, we will measure your baseline health status including blood pressure, body measurements, and BIA scan. You will then meet one-on-one with an FLT Certified Lifestyle Educator who will design a program customized to your needs, preferences, and activity level. The role of the Lifestyle Educator is to support you in making lifestyle changes, educate you on healthy eating and fitness, and to monitor your progress.

The program also includes an easy to follow customized food plan that will help you choose the right foods in the right amounts to leave you feeling satisfied. The food plan works in combination with a medical food to provide nutrients that are scientifically proven to help sustain energy levels and optimize body composition. The Lifestyle Educator will provide you with an individualized meal plan, complete with recipes, serving portions and appropriate time for meals based on your daily schedule.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE BODY COMPOSITION AND WHAT IS A BIA?

BIA stands for Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. It is a non-invasive, inexpensive, painless method of measuring body composition that sends a small electric current (equivalent to 2 AA batteries) from the hand through the body to the foot. The signal will travel faster through fat free tissues such as muscle and organs because they contain more water. Fat tissue contains less water and therefore the signal travels more slowly. Based on this information, the BIA scan can tell us whether you have a healthy or unhealthy body composition, your hydration status, and the health of your cells. The data derived from the BIA is used to monitor progress and evaluate health as part of a complete diagnostic evaluation.

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?

This program is NOT about making changes until you reach your goals, simply to revert back to your old unhealthy dietary and lifestyle habits. It’s about making changes that you can sustain and build upon your whole life so you will have the energy and health you deserve - it’s about TRANSFORMING your life for optimal health! Our Lifestyle Educator is here to help guide you in making lifestyle changes so you can maintain them as lifelong habits. If you health issues that require greater medical attention (i.e. cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease, endocrine dysfunction, diabetes, etc.) one of our physicians will monitor your progress along the way.

IS FLT RIGHT FOR ME?

Anyone who is looking to live a long healthy life and reduce their risk of disease can benefit from FLT. If you are in need of a natural way to help manage a chronic disease, or you simply feel that you do not have enough energy in your daily life, FLT can help you reach your health goals. FLT is well suited for those individuals who are motivated to make changes, but need direction, guidance and structure to their diet and lifestyle. Children, adolescents, adults and seniors alike can benefit from FLT. However, it is not just a weight management tool. Many athletes use FLT to help them optimize their body composition and ensure excellent nutritional status for enhanced athletic performance!
